I once spent several hours trying to see if it was possible and, as far as i can tell, there is no way to do it either direction without potentially getting stuck somewhere if a bus is even a little late. if you figure it out please post it here.

    okay here's the theory:

    1. you get to Tumwater via Intercity Transit

    2. once you get to Tumwater, you will take the CAP bus from Tumwater to Vancouver
runs monday-saturdays seems to take around 3hours 15minutes
    cost: $1.00

    3. 2 once in Vancouver you take the c-tran bus route 134 from the stop that CAP left you at to Downtown Portland./ costs $3.00, takes 20 mins

Only one a day really sucks and it's generally pretty early. I've taken it several times and usually just hitch a ride from Vantucky into Portland. Or you can walk it only takes an hour or so. Way better than greyhound though which costs something like $25 to get down there. Another word of advice...figure out the return logistics too unless you have a way to get back to Oly. It can suck being stuck. Good luck eh!

I'm trying to get from P-town to Oly presently.
It may just be easyer to get across the bridge and hitch hike from there. It's harder to catch rides in the city limits.

but i may try this ...

There is no such thing as stuck!

is it just me or does it look like there are 2 CAP busses. one to longview and then one to tumwater.
anyone done this and experenced it first hand?

I think that it's one bus that goes from longview-vancouver-longview-tumwater-longview

which makes me think that you can do the portland to oly but not the oly to portland.

let me know what you find out. I'm going to try and take this on thursday

I just called all the different bus systems. here is how it works for Portland to Olympia

                two options:

                option one:
                1. at 4th and Hall in downtown Portland, catch the C-Tran 134 at 6:06 am
                2. take it to the Vancouver Salmon Creek Park and Ride
                3. Transfer to the 7:05 CAP shuttle/bus thing to Longview
(tell the driver that you will be transfering to do to tumwater- they will radio to make sure you don't get stuck)
                4. Transfer to the 8:05 CAP shuttle to Tumwater Squre- arive around 9:40am)
                5. Take Intercity Transit to Oly.

                option one:
                1. at 4th and Hall in downtown Portland, catch the C-Tran 105 at 11:45am to downtown Vancouver
                2. transfer to the C-TRAN 71 hwy99 bus at 12:11pm to the Salmon Creek Park and Ride. This will add $1.25 to the over all fare.
                3. Arrive at Salmon Creek Park and ride at 12:42
                4. Catch the 1:05pm CAP to Longview (tell the driver)
                5. Transfer at 2:05pm to the next CAP to Tumwater
                6. Arrive in Tumwater at 3:55pm

I do this route from kalama to pdx & back often.

I never take the 134 cause Its rarely on schedule from my experience. I take the #6 trimet from pdx on mlk to the downtown vancouver bus mall, then take the #71 to salmon creek and catch the cap there. cost is $3.95 all told.

trying to make the conversion to the northbound cap from longview to oly is a bit of a hassle Ive been told, never tried it myself. the south half, from longview to vancouver & back. is mostly on time.

be prepared for character: the CAP caters to low income disabled and otherwise marginalized folks. be preaperd for interesting conversation "THE FBI IS WATCHING ME!" "THE BANK STOLE 5 MILLION OF MY MONEY!" "SHUT UP YOU COW-BITCH" and "like meth... I mean, Im not a junkie, but fun's fun, right?"

all of which ive heard said on the cap in the last two trips Ive taken... enjoy :)
